Why Dogs Eat Poop and What to Do About It

Become The Alpha Dog In Your Pack

In order to eliminate bad behavior and make sure your dog always listens to you, as well as putting an end to embarrassing incidents in front of your friends, the best thing you can dog is to make yourself the leader of your "pack."

What Not To Share With Your Dog This Thanksgiving Dinner

      I am all too excited!

Thanksgiving is just one week away. It is truly my favorite holiday of the year where you get to share food and fun with friends and family without the worry of gift giving. When I say we get to share food with family of course I am speaking of the four legged family members as well.

I have two dogs myself and they are definitely part of our family. However, as you sit down for your wonderful Thanksgiving meal with your beloved animals giving you those sad, please feed me something too, puppy eyes, please keep this in mind.

Many of the foods that we enjoy and eat at Thanksgiving are not meant to be given to our dogs. In fact, many of those foods can cause serious reactions in your dogs. I would hate to see your Thanksgiving ruined because your dog or dogs have become very ill from something you fed them in the name of love!

Teach Your Dog To Bring You Something

How Does Your Dog Learn?

People today really love their dogs. They have close relationships with their dogs. Their dogs are smart and they know what's going on around them. There's a close bond between people and their dogs. Sometimes it almost seems like people think their dogs are a little person in a dog suit. But that's not the case.

The truth is that dogs are dogs, no matter how close people and dogs are. It does not matter how happy or cute our dog is, he's still a dog. When you forget that your dog is a dog, it can lead to problems. Your dog has natural instincts and he thinks and reacts like a dog. Instead of expecting him to act like a person, we need to understand what he is and make changes for him.

How Often Should I Clean My Pet's Teeth?

A common question that comes up during a veterinary visit is "how often should I have my pet's teeth professionally cleaned?" The answer to that question is... well, it depends!

Dogs (and cats to some extent) come in so many different sizes and shapes, that there's really no "one size fits all" recommendation when it comes to profession dental health care. Some large breed dogs who chew well and have lots of room in their mouth for their teeth never have to have their teeth cleaned. Some small breed dogs with crowded teeth and poor genetics have to have them done so regularly that it seems they never have clean teeth! So how does a veterinarian and pet owner decide when to have the animal undergo anesthesia for a profession dental procedure?
